What is a conditional permanent resident status?

Conditional permanent resident status is a type of immigration status granted to certain foreign nationals who are married to a United States citizen or permanent resident. This type of status is valid for two years, after which the foreign national must file a petition with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to have their status adjusted.
