What is a conditional permanent resident status?
Conditional permanent resident status is a special immigration status available in the state of Washington. This type of residency allows certain individuals to reside in the country temporarily and is usually limited to a certain length of time. Conditional permanent resident status is typically granted to individuals who have married a U.S. citizen within the last two years, or those who are immediate family members of a U.S. citizen. This type of residency is valid for two years and must be renewed every two years in order for the individual to remain in the country. Individuals who obtain conditional permanent resident status must meet several requirements in order to obtain and maintain the status. For example, the individual must be able to demonstrate that the marriage is “real”, not just for the purpose of gaining permanent residence. Furthermore, the individual must pass background checks and show proof of financial stability in order to maintain the status. In addition, the individual must also show proof of good moral character and the intention to stay permanently in the United States. If the individual meets the conditions and requirements, they will have the opportunity to apply for permanent residence status once the two-year term has passed. If approved, the individual will then be eligible for all the benefits of a U.S. citizen, such as working and traveling freely within the United States.
