What documents do I need to apply for permanent residency?
In order to apply for permanent residency in Virginia, you will need a few documents. First, you will need to fill out a USCIS Form I-485, also known as an Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. Along with the application itself, you will need to provide proof of identity, such as a passport, driver’s license, military ID card, birth certificate, state ID card, alien registration card (green card), or naturalization certificate. You will also need two passport-style photos taken within 30 days of filing your Form I-485. Additionally, you will need to include evidence that you are eligible to adjust your status. This evidence can include a copy of your current valid nonimmigrant visa, any I-797 approval notices, or an original labor certification issued by the Department of Labor. You may also need to submit documents related to your entry into the United States, such as a copy of your I-94 arrival/departure record. Additionally, you may need to provide proof of any family relationships, such as birth certificates and marriage certificates. Finally, you may need to submit evidence of a sound financial situation, such as tax returns, employment records, and bank statements. All of these documents will be used to verify your eligibility for permanent residency.
