How long does it take to become a US citizen through Naturalization?

It usually takes a minimum of five years to become a United States citizen through naturalization in New Mexico. The process begins with obtaining permanent resident status, known as a green card. Generally, a person must be a green card holder for at least five years before they can apply for citizenship. The five-year process includes time spent living in the US. A person must prove that they have actually lived in the US for at least half of the five years. They must also be physically present in the US for at least 30 months out of the five year period. There are some exceptions for people who are married to US citizens, in which they may be able to become citizens before the five year mark. In order to become a US citizen, applicants must pass an English language test and a civics test. They must also attend an interview, during which they must demonstrate their knowledge of US history and government, and demonstrate good moral character. If they are successful in their interview they will become a citizen. The US citizenship process may be long and challenging, but for those who have the patience and dedication it is an incredible opportunity to become part of the US as a citizen, with all the rights and privileges that come along with it.
