What is an H-2B visa?

An H-2B visa is a type of nonimmigrant visa for foreign students who want to temporarily work in the United States. H-2B visas are available to individuals from outside the United States who are coming to Virginia to take part in a cultural exchange program, such as an internship or summer job. An H-2B visa applicant must have a job offer from a U.S. employer and must demonstrate that they have the necessary qualifications to perform the job offered. The major benefits of an H-2B visa are that it allows foreign students to make money while they are in the U.S. and gain valuable experience. The visa also provides the student with an opportunity to learn more about the American culture and way of life, and to make contacts that may help their career when they return home. In order to obtain an H-2B visa, the applicant must first apply for the visa at the local U.S. Embassy or Consulate. The applicant must provide evidence that they meet the visa requirements, including proof that they have a valid job offer and necessary qualifications. The applicant must also be able to show that they are able to support themselves financially during their stay in the United States. The applicant must then go through an interview process in the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Once approved, the applicant will receive the H-2B visa, which will allow them to legally work in Virginia for up to one year.
