How does the Visa Waiver Program work?

The Visa Waiver Program, or VWP, allows citizens of certain countries to travel to the United States without a visa. This program is open to citizens of 38 countries, including most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. To be eligible for the VWP, travelers must have a valid passport and be coming to the United States for business, tourism, or transit. Additionally, the traveler must provide certain personal information, such as their name, address, and contact information. Once approved for the VWP, travelers will be given an authorization number that they must present to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer at the airport. Upon confirmation of their eligibility and authorization, the traveler will be allowed to enter the United States for up to 90 days.
