What are the different types of Immigration Law?

Immigration law is the body of law that regulates the immigration of foreign nationals into the United States. In Texas, certain aspects of immigration law are handled at the federal level, while other aspects are handled at the state and local level. There are three main types of immigration law. First, there is nonimmigrant law. This includes visas, such as student visas, work visas and tourist visas. These are short-term visas that allow individuals to enter the U.S. for a specific period of time. Second, there is immigrant law. This is also referred to as permanent residence law. An individual granted permanent residence is referred to as a “green card holder” and is granted the ability to live and work in the U.S. permanently. Third, there is naturalization law. This is the process by which an individual can become a U.S. citizen by fulfilling certain legal requirements. In Texas, immigrants must meet certain criteria and pass a test in English, U.S. history, and civics before they can obtain citizenship. In addition to these three main types of immigration law, Texas also has in-state immigration law. This applies to areas such as employment, education, housing and public benefits. Each state has its own laws that must be followed when it comes to immigration. Immigration law is a complex area of law and it is important to understand how it applies to you. It is best to consult with an experienced attorney who is familiar with the laws in Texas to ensure that your rights are protected.
