What is a humanitarian parole?
Humanitarian parole is a form of immigration relief available under U.S. immigration law. It is used in cases where an individual needs temporary permission to enter the United States due to urgent humanitarian reasons. This form of relief is only available to individuals who demonstrate that their entry into the U.S. is necessary for a temporary period of time to address a significant and compelling humanitarian issue. This could include medical emergencies, family reunification, or other urgent humanitarian reasons. In Massachusetts, individuals must apply to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to be considered for humanitarian parole. The individual must show why their entry into the United States is of a humanitarian nature and how their presence will benefit the United States and benefit any person or organization that would be impacted by their presence. Humanitarian parole is limited to a specific purpose and a specific period of time. Once the purpose of the parole has been fulfilled, or the time allowed by the parole has expired, the individual must leave the United States. If the individual remains in the United States beyond the allowed period of parole, they may be subject to removal proceedings. Humanitarian parole is a form of relief that should not be taken lightly. It is not meant for individuals who are seeking to remain in the U.S. permanently but rather for those who have an urgent reason to enter the U.S. for a short period of time. If you are considering applying for humanitarian parole, it is important that you seek out qualified legal counsel to ensure that your application is properly prepared and submitted.
