What is inheritance law?
Inheritance law refers to the legal rules governing the transfer of property from a deceased person to their heirs or beneficiaries. In the state of Florida, inheritance law is governed by the state’s probate code. This code outlines the process and procedures for a probate proceeding, which is the legal process for transferring ownership of a deceased person’s property to their heirs. The probate process typically begins with the filing of a petition in court by an executor, appointed by the deceased to manage their estate.
