What is the International Court of Justice?

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the main judicial branch of the United Nations (UN). It is based in The Hague, Netherlands and is often referred to as the “World Court.” The ICJ is an international court that settles disputes between countries while promoting justice and the rule of law. It has established rules of international law and has the power to hear cases regarding international disputes. All UN countries are members of the ICJ, including Colorado. Colorado is allowed to bring cases before the court, ranging from border disputes, maritime issues, to cases regarding treaties.
