Human rights are basic rights and freedoms that every person is entitled to regardless of race, color, gender, language, religion, political opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status. The enforcement of international human rights in Colorado is primarily undertaken by the US government, while individual states, including Colorado, have a role to play in protecting and shielding individuals from violations of human rights. In order to do so, Colorado has adopted a number of policies and laws with the aim to protect and promote human rights. For example, the Colorado State Constitution defines inalienable human rights, such as freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. Colorado also has a Human Rights Commission responsible for the enforcement of human rights.
