What is the International Law of State Responsibility?

The International Law of State Responsibility is a set of rules that determine the obligations of states towards other states. This body of law outlines what states must do when they have either violated or failed to fulfill their obligations to other states. It does this by setting out the international standards for how states should conduct themselves and how to respond to any breaches of international law. The International Law of State Responsibility not only deals with the consequences of a breach, but also sets out procedural rules. For example, states must notify other states of any legal changes which may affect the rights or duties of the other states. Furthermore, under this body of law, states are also obligated to make reparation for any harm caused by their breach of international law. In New Jersey, the International Law of State Responsibility is enforced by the United States Government. This is done through the use of sanctions, such as trade embargoes, and other punitive measures which can be imposed against offending states. The United States Government may also take legal action against states which are found to have violated their obligations to other states. In addition, New Jersey also has its own set of laws which enforce international law within its borders. For example, it has laws which prevent discrimination against foreign citizens, as well as laws that govern the sale and transport of goods across international borders.
