What is the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)?
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an international organization dedicated to the development and use of peaceful uses of nuclear energy. It was created in 1957 to promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technology. It works to strengthen the global nuclear safety and security system, to ensure compliance with nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament obligations, and to facilitate the safe transfer of nuclear technology. The IAEA is based in Vienna, Austria and has 155 member states. The IAEA works to promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear energy. This includes providing regular guidance to member states on the safe management of nuclear power plants as well as providing training and resources to countries planning to develop their own nuclear power programs. Moreover, the IAEA works to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons by monitoring the compliance of signatories to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and reducing the risk of nuclear accidents.
