What are the international rights and obligations of states?

International law is a body of law that governs the interaction between states and other entities, such as individuals and corporations. This law is based on the principle of sovereignty, which states that each nation is sovereign and has the right to govern itself independently. The international rights and obligations of states include the obligation to uphold international law, including the principles of jus cogens and the responsibility to protect. Jus cogens are rules that are considered binding on all states and cannot be changed or overruled by any other agreement. The responsibility to protect is an obligation of states to protect the rights of their citizens from harm. States also have a responsibility to promote and protect human rights, including the right to life, liberty, and security. States are obligated to uphold the principles of international law and to ensure that they do not violate the rights of other entities. Finally, states have an obligation to cooperate and collaborate with other states in order to ensure peace and security. In South Dakota, the international legal system and the international rights and obligations of states are specified in treaties, international customs and conventions, as well as in United Nations resolutions and regulations. South Dakota is also a signatory to the UN Declaration of Human Rights, which sets out the internationally accepted principles of human rights. Additionally, South Dakota is a member of international organizations, such as the World Trade Organization, which codify and implement international law.
