What is uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage?
Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is a type of insurance that helps protect drivers in Idaho from losses caused by drivers that lack proper insurance coverage or have insufficient coverage. This coverage helps to pay for financial losses related to an accident caused by an uninsured or underinsured motorist. Uninsured motorist coverage applies when an accident is caused by a driver who does not have any insurance coverage at all. Underinsured motorist coverage applies when an accident is caused by a driver who has some insurance coverage, but not enough to fully cover the losses caused by the accident. When purchasing uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, a driver chooses the amount of coverage he/she is willing to pay for. This coverage may also include medical payments and loss of income. When an uninsured or underinsured motorist is at fault in an accident, the policyholder is able to file a claim with his/her insurance company to seek compensation for any losses or damages incurred. This coverage helps to protect Idaho drivers from financial losses due to accidents caused by a driver who does not have enough insurance or none at all.
