What is the difference between medical insurance and health insurance?

The main difference between medical insurance and health insurance is the coverage that each provides. Medical insurance covers medical expenses such as doctor visits, lab tests, and prescription medicine. Health insurance is broader and covers services like doctor visits, hospital stays, surgeries, and prescriptions, but it also covers wellness services such as physical therapy, vision care, and even mental health services. In Idaho, medical insurance is generally offered through employer-provided plans, but individuals can also purchase it on their own through private insurers. By contrast, health insurance is generally purchased through the state health plan exchange (Your Health Idaho) or through Medicaid. The coverage provided by medical insurance tends to be more limited than health insurance. Medical insurance covers costs related to diagnosing and treating an illness or injury, but not services related to prevention or general health maintenance. Health insurance, on the other hand, covers preventive and maintenance services, like annual check-ups, vaccinations, and mental health services. The cost of both medical and health insurance varies depending on the plan. Generally, a health insurance plan will cost you more than medical insurance. This is partly due to the additional coverage and services included in the health insurance plan. In some cases, you may find that the additional coverage makes the health insurance plan a better value.
