What is the Education and Training Voucher Program?
The Education and Training Voucher Program (ETV) in North Carolina is a financial assistance program that helps individuals receive post-secondary education and training. Eligible youth who have been in the foster care system, or are aging out of the system, may access the program in order to help cover the cost of tuition and other related educational expenses. To be eligible for the ETV program, the applicant must be a current or former foster youth, must be attending or accepted into an accredited post-secondary education or training program, and must demonstrate financial need. Applicants must complete the FAFSA and submit all required documentation to receive consideration of the program. Eligible participants may receive up to two years or an equivalent amount of ETV funds in order to assist with their educational expenses. The funds may be used to cover the cost of tuition, housing, books, and other expenses related to the post-secondary education or training program. Participants are also given access to additional support services such as mentoring and career guidance. The ETV program is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is managed by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The program provides an opportunity for individuals who have experienced foster care to receive the funds they need in order to pursue their educational goals and gain the skills necessary to enter the workforce.
