What is the Occupational Safety and Health Act?

The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) is a set of federal laws that protect workers in the United States from hazards in the workplace. OSHA creates safety standards that employers must follow and enforces those standards by conducting inspections and imposing fines. OSHA also helps employers create safer workplaces by providing guidelines, training, and other resources. In Virginia, the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health Program (VOSH) administers, enforces and monitors the safety and health standards of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). The VOSH has the authority to inspect and cite employers for violations of OSHA standards, as well as to investigate and investigate worker complaints. In addition to protecting workers in Virginia from safety hazards, the Act also grants employees the right to participate in an organized safety program, such as a safety committee. The OSH Act also requires employers to report workplace injuries and illnesses to the local authorities. The OSHA is considered one of the most important labor laws in Virginia and is a crucial part of protecting the safety and health of the state’s workforce.
