What is the Native American Rights Fund?
The Native American Rights Fund (NARF) is a national organization based in Boulder, Colorado, focused on protecting and defending the rights of Native Americans. Founded in 1970, NARF works to secure and protect the inherent sovereign rights of tribes and individuals, including sacred ceremonies and cultural practices, treaty rights, tribal homelands, water rights, natural resources and self-governance. NARF works in Oregon to protect the rights of Native American tribes. In recent years, NARF has helped the tribal governments of the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw in Oregon to negotiate a modern-day treaty with the State of Oregon. The modern-day treaty ensures that traditional tribal rights and culture are protected and respected, and that the tribes have a voice in policy and decision-making on matters that affect their quality of life. NARF also works to protect the rights and interests of Native people in the state of Oregon. They work with tribes to ensure Native Americans are included in the policy process and work to ensure all laws abide by the rights of Native Americans. Additionally, NARF provides legal representation to Native Americans in Oregon, advocating for their rights in court, mediating disputes, and providing legal advice and support. NARF is dedicated to the protection and assertion of the rights of Native Americans in Oregon and throughout the United States.
