What treaties have Native Americans signed with the United States?

Native Americans in Michigan have had a long and complex relationship with the United States, including signing a number of treaties with the U.S. government. The first treaty involving Native Americans in Michigan was the Treaty of Detroit, signed in 1783. This treaty established the boundary line between the United States and the Indian nations in the region. In 1807 the United States and the Indian nations of the area signed the Treaty of Brownstown. This treaty established peace between the two parties and gave the U.S. government rights of navigation and fishing in the area. The Treaty of Detroit was followed by the Treaty of Saginaw in 1819. This treaty set aside a large tract of land in Michigan for Indian tribes and also promised them financial support from the U.S. government. The Treaty of Washington was signed in 1836 and provided the foundation for the removal of Native American tribes from Michigan to the Indian Territory of Oklahoma. This treaty also provided for the payment of tribal debts and compensation for lost lands. Finally, the Treaty of La Pointe was signed in 1842. This treaty gave the U.S. government rights to build roads and other infrastructure in the Michigan area. It also allowed the U.S. government to make land purchases from Native American tribes in Michigan. These treaties all played important roles in the history of Native Americans in Michigan, helping to shape the present-day relationship between Native Americans and the United States.
