What is the Indian Employment, Training and Related Services Act?
The Indian Employment, Training and Related Services Act is a law in North Carolina that seeks to provide Native Americans with access to education, job training and related services. This Act was established to ensure that Native American adults and juveniles have the same educational and employment opportunities as other citizens in the state. The Indian Employment, Training and Related Services Act requires that certain job-training and related educational services be made available to all Native Americans living in North Carolina. These services include adult education assistance, career counseling, job search assistance, career publications, job readiness skills, as well as specialized job training and related services. This act also requires that these services include information about the history, customs, and cultures of the state’s Indian tribes. The Indian Employment, Training and Related Services Act also requires that North Carolina’s Employment Security Commission (ESC) create an Indian Job Service Program. This program is designed to help Native American individuals search for and obtain employment. The program provides job search assistance, assistance in finding employers, help with resume and interview preparation, and a list of employers who are committed to recruiting and selecting Native American applicants. The Indian Employment, Training and Related Services Act is an important part of North Carolina’s laws for providing job and educational opportunities to all its citizens. By providing opportunities to Native Americans, this law helps to ensure that all citizens of the state have an equal chance to pursue their goals with the same resources that other citizens have access to.
