What is Social Security Disability?

Social Security Disability (SSD) is a form of financial assistance that is funded by the federal government and provided to individuals who are unable to work due to a disability. Eligibility for SSD is determined by the Social Security Administration (SSA), and the application process is handled through the local Social Security office in Washington. In order to be eligible for SSD, an individual must meet certain criteria set by the SSA. This includes having worked and paid Social Security taxes for at least five of the last 10 years, or having paid taxes for any amount of time for 30 years or more. Additionally, the disability must be severe enough that the individual cannot work or earn an income and the disability must be expected to last for at least one year or result in death. SSD is an important source of support for disabled individuals in Washington and in the U.S. as a whole. It provides financial assistance to those who are unable to work, allowing them to cover basic living expenses while they are unable to earn a living. Additionally, SSD can provide access to healthcare, vocational rehabilitation programs, and other forms of assistance.
