What are the financial requirements for Social Security Disability?

In Virginia, the financial requirements for Social Security Disability (SSD) are determined by the Social Security Administration. In order to qualify for SSD, you must have earned enough credits, which are based on your work history. Generally, you will need between 40 and 45 credits over the course of your working life to qualify, with at least 20 credits earned within the last 10 years before becoming disabled. Additionally, you must have earned a sufficient amount of money within the recent past, as determined by the Social Security Administration. This amount is based on the Average Indexed Monthly Earnings (AIME) you have earned in the last 5 years before becoming disabled. Once you meet the financial requirements, you must also meet the medical eligibility requirements in order to qualify for SSD. These requirements include having a condition that is expected to last at least one year or end in death, and that is severe enough to prevent you from performing any sort of work. If you meet these financial and medical requirements, you may be eligible for SSD benefits. You should also keep in mind that there are also other programs in Virginia that can provide assistance to those who are not eligible for SSD. These programs include Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Virginia Medicaid. You may qualify for one or more of these programs even if you do not qualify for SSD.
