How often do I have to review my Social Security Disability benefits?

In Virginia, Social Security Disability (SSD) recipients are required to review their benefits every year. This process is known as a Continuing Disability Review (CDR). During the CDR, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will review the medical and employment information that the SSD recipient provided during their initial application process. The CDR process can be completed in one of three ways. The first way requires the SSD recipient to complete a form describing their health status and job responsibilities, and any changes from the current year. This must be done within 90 days of the SSA contacting the individual. The second way allows the SSD recipient to submit a series of medical records showing their current health status and any changes. The third way is if the recipient is no longer disabled, they can reapply for SSD benefits and will be evaluated for disability again. If the SSA finds that the individual is still disabled after the CDR, the recipient will continue to receive SSD benefits without interruption. However, if the SSA finds that the individual is no longer disabled, they will be asked to submit additional information to prove they are still disabled. If the individual is still found not to be disabled, their benefits will be terminated. Therefore, SSD recipients in Virginia must review their benefits every year in order to ensure that they are still eligible to receive SSD benefits. It is important that SSD recipients keep detailed records of their medical and employment information to make the process smoother.
