What is a medical review of my Social Security Disability claim?

Medical review is an important part of the Social Security Disability (SSD) application process in California. A medical review is conducted by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to determine if a person qualifies for benefits based on their medical condition. During a medical review, the SSA evaluates the severity of a person’s medical condition. The SSA gathers relevant medical evidence and information from healthcare providers, such as medical records and test results, to assess physical, mental, and intellectual functioning. The SSA then evaluates how the person’s medical condition affects their ability to perform everyday tasks and to interact with others. The SSA also considers how long the medical condition is expected to last and if it is likely to improve. Based on the results of the medical review, the SSA makes a decision about whether the person is eligible for SSD benefits. If the person is approved for SSD benefits, they will receive monthly payments to help cover medical expenses, assist with income-related expenses, and/or supplement other sources of income. It is important to keep in mind that a medical review is just one step in the SSD application process. The SSA may also request additional information, such as employment and educational paperwork, to make a final determination on an SSD claim.
