How do I get a copy of my discharge papers?
Obtaining discharge papers, also known as DD Form 214, is a relatively straightforward process. In Louisiana, veterans may access their records at the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA). The LDVA can provide veterans with their DD Form 214 upon request. The first step to obtaining your DD Form 214 is to contact the LDVA. You can contact the LDVA through their website, telephone number, or in person. If you contact the LDVA in person, you will be asked to provide valid identification. You may also be required to provide additional documentation to prove your status as a veteran. Once your status has been verified, you will be able to make an official request for your DD Form 214. The LDVA website offers a form to complete the request process. You will be asked to provide information such as your name, date of birth, branch of service, and other relevant details. You may be asked to provide copies of documents such as your driver’s license or Social Security card. Once the request is processed, you will be able to get a copy of your DD Form 214. It is important to keep in mind that the process may take a few weeks. You can contact the LDVA if you have any questions or need assistance in obtaining your DD Form 214.
