Are there any special benefits available to veterans who are veterans of the War on Terror?

Yes, there are special benefits available to veterans of the War on Terror in Washington State. The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) offers special benefits for veterans who have served in the Global War on Terror. These benefits include tuition waivers at accredited Washington State public universities and colleges for veterans who were in active duty military services in a combat zone anytime from September 11, 2001, to present. Veterans of the Global War on Terror are also eligible for the Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND) Grant, which helps veterans in Washington State pursue a college education or qualify for a professional license. The OEF/OIF/OND Grant pays 100 percent of tuition and required fees or up to $5,000, whichever is less. In addition to tuition waivers and the OEF/OIF/OND Grant, veterans of the War on Terror in Washington State may also qualify for the Veterans’ Tuition and Workforce Equity Grant, which pays 50 percent of tuition and required fees or up to $5,000, whichever is less. The grant is available at participating public and private colleges and universities in the state. Finally, veterans of the War on Terror may also qualify for the Veterans Education Assistance Program (VEAP) which provides up to $4,000 for veterans to pursue educational and career-oriented opportunities. To qualify for these grants and programs, veterans must have served in the Global War on Terror from September 11, 2001, to present, and be a current resident of Washington State.
