What is veterans disability law?
Veterans disability law is a set of legal guidelines concerning the rights of individuals who served in the United States Armed Forces. This law, primarily regulated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), provides medical care and disability benefits to veterans who suffered an injury or illness during their active military service. The VA offers a range of disability compensation, commonly referred to as ‘VA disability benefits.’ These benefits can include cash payments for those unable to work due to disability, medical care, vocational rehabilitation and employment services, educational assistance, home loan guarantees, and special benefits for veterans with certain disabling conditions or disabilities. In order to be eligible for VA disability benefits, a veteran must have a qualifying disability and have served at least 90 days of active military service. This time can be served all at once or may be accumulated over multiple deployments. Claims must be filed with the VA and can be done online, by mail, or in-person. Once the claim is filed, the veteran will need to provide evidence to show the connection between the disability and military service, and the VA will determine the severity of the disability for the purpose of awarding benefits. Veterans disability law ensures that individuals who have served our country receive the support and resources they need, and also ensures that veterans remain connected to a support system that cares for and remembers their service.
