What is a bounty claim?

A bounty claim is a form of whistleblower law in Pennsylvania which rewards individuals for uncovering financial fraud or supplier overbilling schemes. This incentive-based system helps to ensure that the government is getting the best deal possible and is not being taken advantage of. When an individual suspects that they have uncovered a pattern of fraud or supplier overbilling, they can file a claim with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. If the claim is found to be valid, the whistleblower may be eligible to receive a share of the money that the state is able to recover as a result of their investigation. The size of the reward is based on the amount of financial damage caused by the fraudulent activity. Whistleblowers in Pennsylvania may also receive legal protection under the bounty claim system. This means that, if their claim is found to be truthful, they cannot be retaliated against or discriminated against by their employer for coming forward. Overall, bounty claims provide a powerful incentive for whistleblowers to come forward and make sure that potential fraud is uncovered. By providing financial rewards and legal protections, these claims help make Pennsylvania a safer and more financially efficient state.
