The Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988 prohibits employers from using lie detector test to interrogate employees. The False Claims Act was created to help prevent fraud against the government, and provides protection to those who report fraud. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 offers strong protections for whistleblowers who report misconduct related to the creation and distribution of financial documents or financial reports. The Consumer Product Safety Act of 1972 provides protections to those who report dangerous or defective products to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The Nuclear Regulatory Act of 1974 offers protections to employees at nuclear power plants who report safety violations or improper management practices to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Lastly, The Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act of 1998 offers protections to those who report misconduct to the Office of the Inspector General. Overall, Whistleblower Law in Washington alongside all of these other federal laws offer individuals protection against employer retaliation, and provide legal mechanisms for reporting workplace violations or misconduct.
