What are the laws governing the use of animal drugs in farming?

Animals are an integral part of farming, and the use of medicines and drugs to keep them healthy is a part of every farming operation. In West Virginia, the laws that govern the use of animal drugs are similar to other states, but there are also some unique provisions. The West Virginia Legislature has set forth requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Veterinary Medicines License. This license allows the holder to purchase and store animal drugs, as well as administer them to animals. Before a farmer can use any type of animal drug, they must obtain a prescription from a licensed veterinarian and/or obtain the drug from a licensed veterinarian or a pharmacy. Any drugs obtained in another state must be approved by the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Farmers must also maintain accurate records of the drugs used on their animals. This includes the date, type of drug, and dosage used. This data must be kept for at least five years and be made available for inspection by the West Virginia Bureau of Animal Health. The use of animal drugs must only be done for the purpose of protecting the health of the animals. There are strict regulations in place to ensure that these drugs are not abused, overused, or used in a manner that could hurt the health of the animals or the environment. It is important for all West Virginia farmers to understand and comply with the laws and regulations governing the use of animal drugs. Violations of these laws can result in both civil and criminal penalties.
