What are the regulations governing the transport of farm animals?

Indiana has the Animal Disease and Parasite Control Act, which regulates the transport of farm animals in the state. According to this law, anyone transporting farm animals must comply with the provisions of the act and obtain a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). The CVI must be signed by a veterinarian and certify that the animals are free from communicable diseases. It should also verify that the animals have been properly tagged or identified in accordance with regulations. In addition, any person transporting livestock over Indiana highways must have a permit from the Indiana State Board of Animal Health. The permit authorizes the transport of specific categories of animals, the route to be taken and the mode of transport to be used. The permit must also show that the transporter has the necessary paperwork, such as the CVI. The regulations also state that all animals must be accompanied by sufficient water and food for the duration of the trip. Additionally, all vehicles and containers used to transport animals must be structurally sound and of sufficient size to permit humane and sanitary conditions. They must also have adequate drainage and ventilation. Finally, it is prohibited to transport animals in temperatures that are either too hot or too cold for the species being transported.
