What is the process of aircraft certification?
Aircraft certification is the process by which an aircraft meets the safety standards set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This process is required for all aircraft operations in the United States. In California, aircraft certification takes place in two parts. First, before an aircraft can take to the skies, it must undergo several inspections by the FAA. The FAA thoroughly inspects the aircraft to make sure it meets the safety standards outlined for aircraft. The inspections include the airframe, avionics, propulsion systems, interior, and exterior. The inspections ensure the aircraft and its components are functioning properly, suitable for flight, and safe for passengers. Second, the aircraft must be certified by the FAA in order to operate in California airspace. Once the aircraft is deemed airworthy, the FAA will issue an Aircraft Certificate. This Certificate is the official document that confirms the aircraft is able to safely operate in California airspace. The entire process of aircraft certification is critical to ensure the safety of both passengers and crew. Aircraft that do not meet or exceed the safety standards set by the FAA are not allowed to fly. It is important for pilots and aircraft owners to stay up to date with inspections and certifications to make sure that their aircraft is compliant and ready to fly.
