What is the purpose of the Warsaw Convention?
The purpose of the Warsaw Convention is to provide international protection and regulation of air travel and air transportation. It is a set of international rules and regulations governing the rights and responsibilities of individuals and corporations relating to international air travel. The Convention was developed in 1929 at the International Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules Relating to International Carriage by Air, commonly known as the Warsaw Convention. The Convention established a series of international rules and regulations to ensure the safety and protection of passengers and their cargo during air travel. Under the Convention, passengers have the right to file claims against carriers for certain damages, including delayed flights, lost or damaged luggage, or personal injury. The Convention also sets limits on the amount of money a plaintiff may be awarded in a court judgment. It also determines how and where a judgment may be enforced. The Convention has been adopted by most countries around the world, including South Carolina. In South Carolina, the Convention applies to international flights that have either a South Carolina departure destination or a South Carolina arrival destination. The Convention also applies to domestic flights that have a South Carolina departure destination or a South Carolina arrival destination that is also part of an international flight.
