What are the requirements for aircraft pilots?

In Washington, aircraft pilots must meet certain requirements in order to legally operate a plane. These requirements are set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). First, pilots must be at least 16 years old to fly solo and 18 years old to act as a pilot-in-command of a commercial aircraft. They also must possess a valid medical certificate from an FAA-approved doctor. In order to be licenced, pilots must pass the FAA written examination, proving their knowledge of aviation regulations, airport operations, and navigation principles. After passing this exam, pilots must complete a rigorous flight test with a FAA-certified examiner. This flight test involves demonstrating the pilot’s knowledge of aircraft operations, taking off, landing, navigation, and emergency procedures. Pilots also must complete a certain number of flight hours within a specified amount of time in order to continue testing for their pilot’s license. In addition, pilots must take periodic tests in order to maintain their pilot’s license. Finally, commercial aircraft pilots must hold an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, which requires the pilot to have 1,500 hours of flight time and pass a series of ATP tests. Overall, aviation law in Washington requires aircraft pilots to have a valid medical certificate, pass written and flight tests, have a minimum amount of flight hours, and hold an ATP certificate in order to operate a plane legally.
