What is the process for obtaining a medical certificate for a commercial pilot?

In order to get a medical certificate for a commercial pilot in Texas, the applicant must first pass the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Medical Examination. During this examination, the FAA-certified medical examiner will review the applicant’s medical history, perform a physical examination, and go over any special requirements needed for the applicant’s particular type of flying. The FAA medical certificate will indicate the type of flying that the pilot can do. This is typically limited to either flying for commercial purposes, flying aircraft with more than one engine, or flying into certain altitudes. The medical examiner will also consider the applicant’s visual acuity, depth perception, hearing, and physical condition. In addition, the medical examiner will also review the pilot’s record of medical treatment, medication, or any other medical conditions that could affect the pilot’s flying ability. All of this information is used to determine whether the applicant is healthy enough to fly a commercial aircraft. Finally, if all of the criteria for obtaining a FAA medical certificate are met, the applicant can then submit a request for a medical certificate to the FAA. Once the medical certificate is issued, the applicant will be able to start flying commercially.
