What are the requirements for aircraft maintenance technicians?

In Colorado, aircraft maintenance technicians are required to have specific qualifications and certifications to work on aircraft. This includes having a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification. To obtain this certification, applicants must complete at least 18 months of aviation maintenance-related coursework, such as aircraft systems, airframe maintenance, and powerplant maintenance. Additionally, applicants must complete an FAA-approved written test and a practical test. To maintain their certification, aircraft maintenance technicians must also receive continuing education credits every two years. This can be accomplished through attending workshops, conventions, or taking courses from an accredited aviation institution. In Colorado, aircraft maintenance technicians may also be required to have a Driver’s License and a valid First Aid/CPR card. Additionally, they may need to obtain and maintain a security clearance if they are required to work on aircraft that contain sensitive information or technology. Finally, aircraft maintenance technicians are legally required to follow all applicable safety regulations and guidelines set by the Federal Aviation Administration as well as those set by Colorado State Law. They must ensure that all aircrafts they work on are safe and that all maintenance performed meets the highest industry standards.
