What is the purpose of the DEA?

The purpose of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is to enforce the federal law that regulates the manufacture, importation, possession, use and distribution of controlled substances. The DEA is the only federal agency that is empowered to investigate drug-related crime and prosecute individuals who violate the Controlled Substances Act.
