What is a HIPP program?

A HIPP, or Health Insurance Premium Payment, program is a disability planning law in Washington that helps individuals with disabilities pay for their health insurance premiums. This program is designed to help individuals with disabilities maintain their health insurance coverage and avoid lapses in care. The HIPP program may be applicable to those who receive Medicaid and have an increase in income or resources that would cause a decrease in Medicaid eligibility. In this case, the HIPP program can be used instead of Medicaid to help pay for health insurance. A HIPP program is a joint effort between the State of Washington, the Social Security Administration, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The program is intended to reduce the financial burden of health insurance costs for those who are disabled and are on some form of public assistance. Through the HIPP program, individuals may receive a subsidy from the government to help cover the costs of their premiums. In order to qualify for the HIPP program, individuals must meet certain requirements. These include being a federally eligible individual, having a disability, and having health insurance through an employer, Medicaid, or Medicare. In addition, individuals must have a financial need that meets the income guidelines set by the program. The HIPP program is an important tool for individuals with disabilities living in Washington who need help paying for their health insurance. It helps ensure that those with disabilities can continue to receive the health care they need and stay insured.
