What is the Social Security Blue Book?
The Social Security Blue Book is a listing of medical criteria used to determine if a person has a disability that qualifies them for Social Security Disability benefits in California. This listing is kept by the Social Security Administration (SSA), and is also known as the “Listing of Impairments” and “Disability Checklist”. The Blue Book is divided into categories based on the type of disability a person may have. Each category has a list of impairments that are medically accepted as severe enough to qualify for disability benefits. The Blue Book lists a description of each impairment, as well as diagnostic criteria and other medical test results that can be used to determine if you meet the criteria for disability. The Social Security Blue Book is an important part of disability planning law in California. To qualify for Social Security Disability benefits, a person must prove that their condition meets the criteria listed in the Blue Book. Applicants must provide sufficient medical evidence to demonstrate that their condition meets the standards established by the SSA. This evidence will be reviewed and evaluated to determine if the person is eligible for Social Security Disability benefits.
