What is the alcohol education program?
An alcohol education program is designed to educate people about the risks and consequences of drinking and driving. In Washington, this program is known as the Alcohol Impact Program, otherwise known as AIP. This program provides resources and education to those who have been charged with driving under the influence (DUI). The AIP has multiple components that work together to educate and prevent people from repeated offenses. The program includes home visits and check-ins, educational classes, and counseling services. During home visits, a trained AIP officer comes to the home of an offender to discuss the risks of drinking and driving. The officer will also check to make sure that the individual is following court orders and has not been drinking. The educational classes are designed to make the offender aware of the serious consequences of driving under the influence. Participants will learn about the legal and medical consequences as well as information about alcohol addiction. Lastly, counseling services are available to those who need help with further alcohol addiction and substance abuse. The AIP program is designed to promote awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving and to reduce repeat offenders. The goal of the program is to make sure that all individuals understand the risks and take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.
