What is the process of voting?

In Virginia, the process of voting starts with registering. To register, you must be a United States citizen, be a resident of Virginia, and be at least 18 years old at the time of the election. You must present proof of identity and residence to your local registrar. Once registered, you can choose to vote early in person or by mail. If you choose to vote in person, you will visit your local polling place on Election Day to cast your ballot. When you get to the polling place, you will be asked for photo identification, such as a driver’s license. Then, you will be directed to a voting machine, where you will be able to select the candidates of your choice. If you choose to vote by mail, you must complete the absentee ballot form, which must be returned to the local registrar by the deadline. When you complete your ballot, you must sign and date it, and include the necessary witnesses’ signatures and their addresses. Finally, after all the votes have been tallied, the local registrar will certify the results of the election. The results will then be reported to the State Board of Elections and the Governor of Virginia. They will declare the winners of the election and the results will be published in the official state results.
