What are the federal environmental laws?

Federal environmental laws are the laws established by the U.S. government to protect the environment and promote public health. These laws are enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is responsible for creating and enforcing regulations. In Washington, some of the federal environmental laws include the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The Clean Air Act addresses air pollution by regulating emission of hazardous air pollutants from both stationary sources (such as factories and power plants) and mobile sources (such as vehicles). The Clean Water Act protects surface water bodies from pollution by creating standards for wastewater discharges and setting up requirements for water treatment facilities. The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act helps prevent environmental damage caused by hazardous waste. It requires careful management and disposal of such waste, as well as regular monitoring of hazardous waste sites. To ensure that federal environmental laws are being followed in Washington, the EPA works closely with the Washington Department of Ecology. Together, they enforce regulations, analyze data, and monitor air and water quality. They also help citizens understand and implement federal regulations. By doing so, they ensure that people in Washington are living in a safe and healthy environment.
