This right is also protected by state and federal laws such as Title IX, which prohibits discrimination in education based on gender, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which ensures that students with disabilities are provided with an equitable education. At the international level, the right to education is also found in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that no one shall be deprived of the right to education. The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights also includes the right to education in the states’ obligation to provide free, compulsory, and equal primary education. Further, the Convention on the Rights of the Child mandates that states provide free and compulsory education for children, with the option of secondary education available and accessible to all. It also allows for the establishment of more advanced systems of education for those who wish to pursue them. In Texas, the right to education is an important civil liberty that is protected by law. State and federal laws ensure that all citizens have the right to quality education. Additionally, international human rights law also affirms the importance of the right to education and requires states to create systems that ensure it.
