What is the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment?
The Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment is a human rights treaty that was adopted by the United Nations in 1984 and entered into force in 1987. It prohibits any form of torture or cruel and inhuman treatment or punishment, including psychological or physical torture and the use of threats or coercion to extract a confession or compel an individual to act in a certain way.
