What is a non-immigrant visa?
A non-immigrant visa is a type of visa issued to visitors of the United States who wish to stay in the country for a short period of time. Non-immigrant visas are issued to people who are visiting the United States for business, pleasure, or educational reasons. These visas are not issued to those seeking permanent residence in the United States. Non-immigrant visas are granted to people from other countries who wish to travel to the United States for a specific purpose. Those who wish to visit for tourism or business can apply for a B-1 or B-2 visa. Those wishing to study in the United States may be eligible for a student (F-1) visa. People coming for medical treatment can apply for a medical visa. Other types of non-immigrant visas include those for diplomatic, athletic, religious, or cultural purposes. In California, a person may be deported if they violate the terms of the visa they were granted or if they overstay the period of time allowed in their visa. It is important to remember that non-immigrant visas are temporary and that individuals should abide by the laws governing the immigration and visa process.
