How do I apply for an EAD?
In Washington, applying for an Employment Authorization Document, or EAD, is an important part of the process for those who want to work legally in the United States. The EAD is issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and you must show that you are either a lawful permanent resident or have another eligible status, such as being an asylum-seeker or a refugee, to be eligible for an EAD. The first step to applying for an EAD is to fill out USCIS Form I-765, which can be found on the USCIS website. The form asks for details about your name, date of birth, current immigration status, and whether you are applying for a work permit. Once you have filled out the form and included all the required documents, such as proof of identity and your social security number, you can submit the application. You will also need to pay an application fee, which is currently $410. You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or check or money order made payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Once you have paid the fee, you will receive an official receipt and your application will be processed. If your application is approved, you will receive an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) and will be able to legally work in the United States.
