What is an L visa?

An L visa is a type of visa available to foreign nationals who are coming to Virginia to work in a specialized field. This visa allows them to live and work in the United States, including in Virginia, for a specific period of time. The L visa is a nonimmigrant visa that is specifically designed for employers who want to bring foreign workers to the United States temporarily. The foreign worker must have a job offer from the U.S. employer, and the employer must prove that the foreign worker has the necessary qualifications and experience to fill the job opening. The L visa is typically used by people who are highly trained and specialized in their profession. This could include engineers, scientists, computer specialists, and medical professionals. The duration of an L visa varies depending on the type of job and the country the foreign worker is coming from. Generally, the duration of the visa can range from three months to five years, although in some cases, it can be extended up to seven years. The foreign worker can work in the U.S. under an L visa but cannot stay in the country for more than the duration of the visa. After the visa expires, the foreign worker must either return to their home country or apply to change status to be allowed to stay in the U.S.
