What is the E-2 visa?

The E-2 visa is a type of visa issued in Washington that is designed for investors from foreign countries who wish to set up their own business in the state. The visa holder must own at least 50% of the total investment in the business and must prove that the investment holds substantial value. The visa holder must also have the intention of managing and developing the business personally and must not be an employee of the business. The E-2 visa provides an opportunity for investors to stay in Washington state for an extended period of time, as long as they continue to actively maintain and develop their business. The visa is initially issued for two years and can then be renewed every two years if necessary. This is a great option for investors who want to create their own business and do not qualify for other types of visas. The E-2 visa differs from other visas, such as the H-1B, in that it does not require a job offer or sponsorship from a U.S. employer, but it does require that the investor create a legitimate business in Washington. Additionally, the business must be generating income and creating jobs for U.S. workers. As long as the visa holder is actively managing their business and meeting the other requirements, the E-2 visa can be renewed as needed.
