What are the requirements for applying for DACA?

People who meet certain requirements may apply for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in Washington. To apply, an individual must have come to the United States before their 16th birthday and before June 15, 2007. They must have continuously resided in the U.S. from June 15, 2007, up to the present time. They must also be currently enrolled in school, have graduated from high school, obtained a GED, or have been honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces or Coast Guard. DACA applicants must also be at least 15 years of age, unless they are currently in the removal proceedings or have a final removal order. In addition, applicants must not have been convicted of a felony, a significant misdemeanor, or three or more other misdemeanors, and must not pose a threat to national security or public safety. DACA applicants must submit Form I-821D, Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, along with supporting documentation as evidence of their qualifications. Documents can include school transcripts, medical records, financial records, and affidavits from family members, teachers, or counselors. The filing fee for Form I-821D is $495. Once an application for DACA is approved, the applicant will be granted deferred action for a period of two years. Deferred action does not provide lawful status, but permits someone to remain in the U.S. temporarily and apply for work authorization. DACA recipients must renew their DACA every two years and submit additional application documents as well as the filing fee.
